8 June 1991 - Midvaal

Tony Viana qualified first in class B, followed by Johann Coetzee and Deon Joubert in third place. Coetzee took an early lead, but was overtaken by Viana who then lay well ahead by a second for the rest of the race. Deon Joubert survived a late braking maneuver by Larry Wilford to end in third place. At the start of the second heat, Terry Moss got away in the Audi 500, but in the first corner, Chris Aberdein’s Audi hit van der Merwe’s Sapphire. Viana had nowhere to go and smacked the Ford with the BMW and the race was stopped. Viana’s team did their best to mend the BMW, but after the restart, Viana battled understeer and was well down the field. Joubert ‘s 535i was misfiring and Coetzee’s Skyline dominated to take the flag.
