6 October 1990 - Killarney

2 Heats of 10 laps each

The first 535i made its debut in traditional Winfield colours at Killarney on 6 October 1990 in the hands of Tony Viana. Freshly built with a new engine due to failure in practice, the car was clearly unsorted and proved to be a handful. It oversteered wildly, and at the end of the race, Viana was smilingly quoted as saying: “How was that? Every time I touched the brake, it was sideways. It didn’t handle, but I tried.”
