1 August 1992 - Welkom

Johan Coetzee put the Skyline in first place in class B, followed by Deon Joubert, Tony Viana, Paddy Driver, Gary Dunkerley and Larry Wilford. On the first lap Joubert just got ahead of Coetzee with Viana third, and it was a very close race between the three. Coetzee started to fall back and Viana took second place.

Deon Joubert led Viana into the second heat with Dunkerley third, but by lap three, Coetzee got past Dunkerley and started to hound the two BMWs. By lap seven, Coetzee had got past Viana and was chasing down Joubert. Further up the field, Moss and van der Merwe touched at almost 300km/h and both cars flew off the track with the Sapphire rolling over several times. Van der Merwe was lucky to walk away from this, highlighting the high speeds and danger of this class of racing. Viana started to fall back slightly, but still finished a convincing third behind Joubert and Coetzee.
