2 March 1992 - Aldo Scribante

2 Heats of 10 laps each

Neither of the cars were race ready for the previous event on 2 February at Kyalami, and Viana was conspicuously absent from class B at this race, still busy converting the front suspension from the Ashley-designed transverse cantilever arrangement to traditional McPherson struts. Joubert came out guns blazing to win both heats at this event, ending up 4th overall in Heat 2, vindicating Owen Ashley’s radical suspension arrangement. Joubert’s car was now being tended to by Owen Ashley himself - both engine and chassis - and an extra 70Hp had been found, taking the car to 350Hp. The car also featured a new gearbox.

However, it was to be a very controversial result. The BMW was running art 1100kg, rather than the 1200kg prescribed in the MSA White Book. Wesbank Modified series chairman, Dick Sorensen, ruled that the 1200kg in the White Book had been a ‘misprint’ and allowed the BMW to run at 1100kg.
