1 March 1992 - Kyalami

2 Heats of 8 laps each - Non Championship

South African Grand Prix Support Race

Gary Dunkerley got off to a flying start in heat 2, followed by Tony Viana, Johann Coetzee, Deon Joubert, Larry Wilford and Paddy Driver. Viana and Dunkerley were having a tight race and made contact on lap 4, with Dunkerley getting the Porsche sideways in front of Viana at Wesbank corner. Both recovered quickly, but this allowed Larry Wilford through to take the lead. Dunkerley retired on lap 5, so the two BMWs were chasing down Larry Wilford, who’s Skyline started to smoke badly. Wilford was shown the black flag and slowed down, just as a slower car got in Viana’s way, and Joubert took the lead. Viana chased down Joubert and the two were in a very close race, with Viana overtaking Joubert on the second last corner to take the lead and win class B.
