1 February 1992 - Kyalami

2 Heats of 8 laps each

This was the first race at the newly modified Kyalami, although the new pits were not yet finished.

Deon Joubert qualified his BMW 535i first in class B, followed by Tony Viana in the sister 535i and Gary Dunkerley in the Porsche in third place. The same formation was kept during heat 1, but by lap four, Paddy Driver retired and Johan Coetzee went missing. Joubert set up a new class B lap record of 1m 50s, but could not stop Viana from eventually overtaking him to take first place, followed by Gary Dunkerley in third.

A late afternoon thunderstorm drenched the track for heat 2, and the race became more of a procession. Viana got away first, followed by Joubert and Dunkerley. Coetzee did not make the start of heat 2 due to a stone getting into the engine’s intake. Joubert, with no windscreen wiper and a misted windscreen, would be hounded by Pat Duckham in the class C Ford Sierra in the treacherous conditions, and Dunkerley well down in the middle of the class C cars.
