25 May 1991 - Kyalami

2 Heats of 10 laps each

Johan Coetzee’s Skyline blew its motor in practice before he could post a time, so the BMW of Joubert was on pole with Viana second. During Heat 1, Larry Wilford charged to the front, followed by Johan Coetzee, Deon Joubert, Tony Viana and Gary Dunkerley. Viana and Coetzee went off at Continental Corner on lap two, and Coetzee’s Skyline was then hit by Don Bruins in his Opel Kadett. Joubert took the honours, followed by Dunkerley, Wilford and Paddy Driver. Coetzee’s Skyline was loaded on the trailer, too damaged to finish the days racing. The second heat saw Deon Joubert well out in front of class B, followed by Viana in second place. On lap seven, Joubert’s BMW threw a rod and retired, leaving Viana to take home BMW’s second class win of the day.
