31 August 1991 - Kyalami

Tony Viana led class B in his BMW 535i followed by Johan Coetzee in the Nissan Skyline, with Deon Joubert, Gary Dunkerley, Larry Wilford and Paddy Driver following. Joubert was able to catch Coetzee and overtake him on lap 5, and they maintained this formation to the end. On the second last corner, Joubert’s BMW started to smoke badly, but he was able to just hang onto second place, pulling off the track immediately after the finish line. Heat 2 was almost a repeat of heat 1 with Viana leading Coetzee, Joubert, Driver, Dunkerley and Wilford. Coetzee passed Joubert on lap 2 and by lap 4, Wilford was in fourth place. With the sun fading quickly, Viana and Coetzee were steadily pulling away from Joubert, and on lap 7, Wilford retired. Joubert’s BMW started smoking again and he pulled off the track on the second last lap.
